I wanted to write but I kept delaying and this is the best I can do to overcome my brain's bad advice

Silly brain.

A scene from my head, almost every day of the past few weeks:

My brain: Hey lazy bones. It’s been another week.

Me: I know, I know. I’ve just lost my nerve.

Brain: Everyone is thinking about how you haven’t posted.

Me: I’m not sure that’s true. I’m sure people haven’t even noticed.

Brain: No, they totally have. I’m SO embarrassed for you-slash-us.

Me: Oh man.

Brain: Get this. They all think you’re researching something deep and important. The expectations are through the roof.

Me: That can’t be true.

Brain: Look, you just added three more subscribers to get up to 200. These people don’t even know you. If you post something uncool, they’re going to ditch you.

Me: Well, that’s fine. I mean, my self-worth isn’t based on—

Brain: (pressing his finger to my lips) Shhhhhhhh….

Me: What if I wrote a personal thing in Evernote.

Brain: I like it, but hear me out. You shouldn’t post it.

Me: Why not?

Brain: Because people want real business advice from you. Not personal stuff. They subscribed because you did a thing that they want to hear more about.

Me: But what if I want to write some jokes? Or retell a funny story.

Brain: Oof. Even worse. What if it’s not actually funny? I mean, if it’s as good as Mike Birbiglia would do, fine. But otherwise, pass.

Me: How can I know if it’s at the level?

Brain: You can trust me. It’s not.

Me: Well, what should I do then?

Brain: Just wrap it up because I haven’t seen any Netflix or phone for the last 12 seconds so I’m getting bored.

Me: I’m not sure I trust you.

Brain: Easy, partner…

Me: I think that if I write a creative like scene about how I wished I had written during the past four weeks, but didn’t, people will respect the effort.

Brain: They won’t.

Me: They will.

Brain: Agree to disagree.

Me: Fine.

Sorry it’s been a minute.

I did two open mics this week, which went OK but not great. But I did it.

My family had an Elementary school graduation, so we’re full of emotions and wondering where the time went.
