STEPHtember
A celebration of being a fan, being underrated and stepping out to do something different.
It’s September 1st, and that means it’s the first day of a month-long celebration I just made up. The best part – you (and your favorite brands) can join me.
In honor of my favorite basketball player of all time, I present to you:
STEPH-TEMBER
A celebration of the underrated winner in all of us. This month, shoot your shot to achieve your dreams by putting in the work just like Golden State Warriors superstar, two-time MVP, and all-time 3-point record holder Steph Curry.
Listen, branded holidays with pun names are every marketer’s dream. May the 4th. Prime Day. Movember. Valentine’s Day. These are all just made-up holidays that help brands capture attention and activate their fans.
Stephtember is no different! I’m doing my own Stephtember Challenge this year by writing and posting something fresh every day this month. Been trying to do it for a while, and struggled with all the beginner struggles and fears and false starts, but now I’ve made my Stephtember commitment to you. I’m locked in!
But what else makes Stephtember so great?
Well, it’s right there in the name. It’s a perfect name. The transposed letters from SEPTember will delight Gen X dad-jokers and Gen Z tik-tokers alike.
Matching number of syllables for anyone trying to put it into a song or rap. (get ready for Stephtember 21st, people!)
And no, don’t try to make “Stephen-tember” a thing. It’s an extra, unwanted syllable and we all know that a lot of people say “Stephen” wrong.
All of this before you realize that September has 30 days. COME ON. He’s number 30, people. This writes itself.
Think about the 30-day challenges you could do. Write. Run. Give. Dance. Eat better. Sleep more. Drink less. For 30 days. And you could donate to a non-profit. Forget the Ice Bucket Challenge, this is Stephtember!
I’ll be celebrating Stephtember this year by challenging myself to write and share, and seeing where it takes me. Who’s in?
(1/30 Let’s go!)
PS - Did I buy the Stephtember.com domain name? If you know me at all, you know that I did. And if my marketing friends at the Golden State Warriors want it, you all are welcome to it.
Alec, we worked together briefly when I was at dotted line! Well, I cannot freaking believe I’ve never thought of Stephtember!!! I found you thru heather’s substack. So cool to see you on here!
