Listening to my kids teach themselves piano and guitar and harmonica--it induces pride while testing my sanity and patience
+1 for kids’ ages. Mine are 7.5 & 10 and I thoroughly enjoy 98% of my time with them. Grateful for the summer. Hope you’re enjoying yours.
TV: The Pitt. Like the format, great cast. Like The Bear meets ER. Best medical show since The Knick.
Books: listening to Stephen King books. I’m on The Mist. The Shining before that, Carrie late last year. I find most of his books are very easy and helpful to listen to. Sometimes I’ll check them out after and go back and read certain passages too.
I’ve picked up indoor rock climbing in the last year. Turns out picking up new hobbies in your mid-thirties can be fun and rewarding (while also being incredibly humbling)!
Alec! Just discovered your Substack and loving it. Can't wait to come to a Story Club night. Favorites right now: TV: "Overcompensating" on Prime - hilarious, poignant, raunchy as hell. Book: "What Kind of Paradise" by Janelle Brown - a novel set in the mid-90's in the 1st tech boom that now qualifies as historical fiction. Life: Activism. I made "know your rights" signs to tape up in bathroom stalls wherever I travel this summer, and at the nail salon I yelled "Fuck Kristi Noem" loudly at the TV when her stupid commercial came on, which inspired a great conversation with the lady next to me. I'm in my IDGAF Era.
Just got a new Speed Queen washer and trashed our shitty Samsung.
Severance Season 2.
Wow. Washing and brainwashing
James by Percival Everett
You Like It Dark by Stephen King

+1 to Phil Rosenthal - he is joy personified (and the author of a great sitcom writing book!)
And WOW what a list
He really is. I aspire to his life tone.
Andor season 2.
I too recommend the Pitt.
My book currently is "how to lead when you're not in charge" interspersed with "shoofly pie" about an intrepid entomologist.
Then when I get way into it, I try to really talk to my wife, or call an old friend from way back.
Andor is the best Star Wars since the original Star Wars
I think Rogue one is in the middle of that equation.
But I'd have to rewatch the whole series to be sure.
BRB....
Just subscribed to the storytelling event site!
Ty for building. Need something like this over in the Bay 🥲

That’s the second recommendation I’ve heard TODAY for The Pitt

Oh cool- I try to keep up with Nora but now she smokes me in bouldering.
A literal quote: “dad, come try this v4 so I can feel better about myself”
Great to hear from you!
